Sierra Nevada 52% Cacao Colombia is a dark milk chocolate made in Colombia. The cocoa beans come from the highest coastal mountains in the world: the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta . The highest peaks are 5,775 m high and only 45 km from the Caribbean coast. Three different Indian tribes with an estimated 20,000 people still live in the valleys of the Sierra Nevada.

In the middle of the Sierra Nevada, the Ciudad Perdida (Teyuna is the indigenous name) - the lost city - was rediscovered and plundered by grave robbers in 1975. Along with Macchu Picchu, it is one of the largest rediscovered pre-Columbian cities in South America.

It consists of approx. 200 oval and round terraces, which are connected by stone paths. If you want to visit the site, you have to be prepared for a strenuous three days walk, as the area cannot be reached otherwise. It is only 20 km to the camp, but the path leads through the tropical rainforest and rivers and streams have to be passed several times. The last 200m consist of a steep stone staircase with over 1,200 steps.

One can imagine that due to the mountainous region there are no huge plantations, but that cocoa deposits are rare. However, it is an important source of income for the mostly indigenous peoples.

Taste: aromas of red fruits, lemons, honey and raisins. This chocolate does not have any bitter notes either, but rather melts in the tongue.
