Pistachios are one of the oldest and most popular cultivated plants in the world. They are known to have originated in the Middle East. It is said that the Queen of Sheba made pistachios a royal food and forbade the people to grow this delicacy for personal consumption. During the reign of Emperor Tiberius, the plant was introduced to Italy and used as a food and remedy for toothache and cirrhosis of the liver. Today, around 910,000 tons of pistachios are harvested worldwide, with the USA accounting for almost 60% and Turkey and Iran sharing a further 15% each.
Bronté pistachios from Sicily are famous and are also used by some of our chocolate manufacturers. In our set, we have various chocolate bars with sprinkled pistachios, pistachio nougat, cookies with pistachios and salted pistachios.
