Newly planted cocoa forests offer the farmers of the Virunga National Park in the Congo an opportunity to earn income through the sale of cocoa beans, as well as a livelihood through the cultivation of useful plants and wood production. If properly managed, these reforested forests are also buffer zones to protect the old rainforests. If we manage to market all of the cocoa in the Virunga region on Original Beans terms, we could stop deforestation 100%.

The Virunga National Park was established as Africa's first national park in 1925 and covers an area of over 7,800 km2. It still occupies a key position as a protected area at this hotspot of biodiversity in the African mountains. In 1979 the Virunga National Park became a World Heritage Site.
He and his mountain gorillas achieved a high level of awareness through the work and the tragic death of Diane Fossey.
