This is the Christopher Columbus explorer chocolate: the Grand Cru Guanaja 70% is made from a blend of Criollo and Trinitario cocoa beans. The recipe is a well-kept secret of the house. The chocolate's notes reflect the sun and warmth of the Caribbean. It offers strong aromas, has floral notes, a very intense flavour and a particularly long aftertaste, typical of cocoas from South America. The Guanaja is Valrhona's classic, which has been around unchanged since 1986 and is still considered by many to be the reference for a good chocolate.

Valrhona is one of the oldest chocolate factories in France. The company was founded in 1922 as the Vivarais chocolate factory. The Valrhona brand was not created until 1947 and is now one of the world's best chocolate brands. It was Valrhona who launched the first dark chocolate on the market in 1986. The tablet still exists today, it's called Guanaja, named after one of the Bahia Islands in the Caribbean that Christopher Columbus discovered on his 4th trip to America. Valrhona supervises the cultivation of the cocoa trees on the plantations with which they work according to its own strict quality guidelines. The beans are made in France to make one of the best chocolates in the world, from bean to bar. In 1988 Valrhona created the Ecole du chocolat, where the confectionery trade can be learned to perfection. The limited plantation chocolate from the Gran Cuva collection has been around since 1998.  

The Valrhona Chocolate 70% Noir Guanaja was named after the island on which Christopher Columbus landed when he discovered America.

Überraschend guter Handel

Abgesehen von der hervorragenden Produktqualität überraschte mich der schnelle und professionelle Versand. Die Schokolade war gut verpackt und sogar mit einem Kühlakku versehen, sodass die ungewöhnlich warmen Außentemperaturen dem Produkt während des Versandweges überhaupt nichts anhaben konnten. Man kann diesen Handel bestens empfehlen, weil ohne viel Aufhebens gerade die Kleinigkeiten genau passten.
