Meybol Cacao

The founder of Meybol Cacao comes from Peru and has lived in Hamburg with her husband for years. From her homeland Meybol Estendorfer-Moran brought cocoa and chocolate with her. In Peru, the original homeland of cacao grow 6 of the 10 most aromatic cacao in the world. Piura maranon, Chuncho and Vraem are probably the best known. These highly aromatic cocoa beans are very popular and sought after among connoisseurs.

The valuable cacao trees are cultivated by direct descendants of the Incas. The local population is paid above average for their work and can thus afford schooling for their children and generate a secure income. The cooperation with Meybol Cacao supports 30 smallholder families. A win-win   Situation for both sides. They pay their cocoa farmers directly, far above the world market price and without additional labels like Fairtrade. On this topic, also read the Spiegel article "Echt fair?" about Meybol Cacao, among others.

Meybol Cacao controls the value chain from tree to bar.

Only the best cocoa varieties are selected for the chocolates: Criollos cocoa beans.

After harvesting, the cocoa is carefully fermented and carefully dried. These two steps are the most important in the whole production chain, because this is where the aromas develop that the chocolate will later taste like. The cocoa beans are individually sorted, only in this way can Ultra Premium cocoa be created. The chocolates have only two ingredients: Cocoa and sugar, sometimes a little cocoa butter, nothing else.

After drying, the cacao beans are taken to the chocolate factory in Peru and processed into this award-winning chocolate. Afterwards, the bars and cocoa are delivered to Hamburg, where chocolate lovers are already eagerly waiting.

Sustainability and the appreciation of people and nature with its rich flora and fauna are matters close toMeybol 's heart. So is tradition and the preservation of knowledge about this precious fruit, also called food of the gods. In pre-Columbian times, cocoa beans were used as a means of payment. The Aztecs could not understand why the Europeans pounced on their gold treasures.
