Die Guasare-Bohnen stammen aus der Nähe des Guasare-Flusses aus dem Nord-Westen Venezuelas unweit zu Kolumbien, Experten sind inzwischen der Meinung, dass sie mit der alten kolumbianischen Criollo-Sorte verwandt sein soll. Zudem stammt er aus der selben Region wie der Porcelana-Kakao.

Die Guasare-Kakaobäume produzieren aufgrund ihrer Größe und ihrer großen Anzahl beeindruckende Schoten.
