Direct Cacao - Organisation for good cocoa and fair trade

Direct Cacao is an interdisciplinary organisation that brings together people from the chocolate and cocoa industry, from farmers to chocolate manufacturers and journalists. This body supports directly purchased and organically grown fine flavoured cocoa. Direct Cacao brings cocoa farmers and chocolate manufacturers directly together: at no cost and with no certification effort. Chocolatiers now travel to the cocoa farmers on the plantations and work with them to develop the best fermentation processes to obtain a good and tasty cocoa. In return, the cocoa farmers receive a price that is far above the world market price and on which the cocoa farmer can really live.

On 28 January 2012, a group of chocolate manufacturers, chocolatiers, tasters, cocoa farmers and experts gathered at Soldier's Beach in Guanaja (Honduras), where legend has it that Christopher Colombus made the first European landing in Central America. Two "criollo antiguo" cocoa trees were planted here and a declaration was made to shape the relationship with fine cocoa. At YouTube you can find a Direct Cacao Video.
