Femme - 50% Organic milk chocolate

Femme is dark milk chocolate made from rare Amelonado beans grown organically by female cocoa farmers in the Virunga Valley in eastern Congo (on the border with Uganda) - the world's first cocoa cooperative for women. The amelonadococoa beans gives this bar a light but unmistakable taste reminiscent of creamy, caramelized honey and roasted nuts.

This chocolate bar is named in honor of these incredible pioneers who overcame challenges that most of us can only imagine. Decades of armed conflict have made Eastern Congo one of the poorest countries in the world and one of the toughest countries for women. The cooperative not only creates a livelihood and future for the women and their children, but also actively protects and preserves the natural biodiversity of their homeland in Virunga National Park, the oldest nature reserve in Africa and home to the last mountain gorillas.

Our partner Original Beans works directly and locally with the cooperative, pays 1.8 times the Fairtade price and supports  this pioneering project. The packaging and film are made of wood and are therefore completely biodegradable and waste-free.
