Linden honey is a light-colored blossom honey that bees prepare from the nectar of the linden blossom. In the Colbitz-Letzinger Heide near Magdeburg is one of the largest linden forests in Europe. In the evening hours, the flowers of the linden trees give off a particularly intense scent, so that the bees are one of the few to visit this deciduous tree in the evening.
Honey is the food of the bees and their offspring. Even in winter they keep the temperature of 30 ° C constant in their beehive. They get the energy they need from their honey. A colony of bees in Central Europe needs around 25kg of honey for wintering. The annual honey production is around 100kg per beehive, so that after deducting personal needs, there is still honey left for the beekeeper.
