How can I recognize vegan Chocolate?

Chocolate is vegan by nature, because it is the seed of the cocoa plant. As long as Chocolate does not contain any animal products besides cocoa and cocoa butter (and sugar if applicable), such as milk or "clarified butter", it remains vegan. A look at the list of ingredients gives information !

Vegan Chocolate or also "Plant-based Chocolate" contains only vegetable ingredients and comes completely without animal milk products. Instead, it contains, for example, rice, almond or coconut milk, mostly sugar (often coconut blossom sugar) and, of course, cocoa.

"May contain traces of ... contain."

This statement is now found on many products. This some consumers find misleading, thinking that these ingredients may well be present after all. Perhaps a statement such as: "Manufactured in a facility that also.... processes" would be more meaningful. In fact, this note is only intended for allergy sufferers, for whom even the smallest amounts ("traces") of these products can be critical. If therefore e.g. for Veganer thereby the impression could develop that the food is not vegan, one accepts that.
Unintentional "contamination" by e.g. traces of powder dust flying through the air (e.g. flour dust, milk powder dust, dust from hazelnut, etc.) is not a problem. - as is generally the case with pollen from flowers, trees and grasses) cannot be avoided 100 percent despite impeccable hygiene. Therefore, a food that does not contain milk in the ingredient list, for example, may be considered and labeled as completely vegan despite the statement "may contain traces of milk...".

Vegan-friendly labeling

In addition to the "vegan" logo for products declared vegan by the manufacturer, you will also find a "vegan-friendly" label. We put this logo if the product does not contain animal products (e.g. milk) in the ingredients list. Why do we do this? There are some countries (e.g. Denmark) that explicitly prohibit advertising obvious product characteristics. After all, the customer can tell by looking at the ingredients list that the product does not contain animal ingredients. While we can understand this, we would still like to give our customers an "at first glance" indication that these are products without milk, for example. This also includes products that have the allergy notice: "May contain traces of..." (see previous paragraph).
